A jewelry appraisal is a written professional opinion of the authenticity, quality, design and approximate value of a piece of jewelry, for purposes including retail insurance replacement, probate, or estate.
Since it is an ‘informed, professional opinion’, there can be variations between appraisals done by different appraisers.
An appraisal should be done by an experienced Independent Professional Appraiser.
The most common reasons for having jewelry appraised are: Insurance Appraisals, Probate and/or Estate Appraisals, Liquidation Appraisals, Divorce Appraisals
Appraisal fees vary according to the service being rendered and the intended use of the appraisal. The Appraisal Fees listed here are based on the time required to appraise standard jewelry items, ie: solitaire rings, studs up to 2.00ct each, 5-stone rings, line-bracelets, etc. Complicated items are charged at a different rate discussed prior to the start of appraisal. Fees exclude taxes:
Plain Gold Items - each $45
Single Diamond/Gem items - each $115
Complicated Jewelry items - by quote
Watches - each $130
Estates - Scheduled list, each $35 - $75
Estates - Detailed Appraisals - by quote
Consultation only - $150/hour
Discounted rates apply in some cases.
Unkept Appointments - $85.00
The constant fluctuation of the gold price, currency exchange rates, diamond price changes, all have a significant influence on the value of jewelry in Canada. You should update your appraisal every 3 - 5 years.
With the recent increase of robberies and home invasions, it is imperative to have your jewelry appraisals current, with up to date values on a par with economic changes.
Remember to check with your own insurance provider at what value you should have your jewelry scheduled on your insurance policy.
Well, Yes - So Am I.
Did you know that Lab Grown Diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds? To me, this is a scientific marvel. The difference is indistinguishable unless examined by a trained gemologist with the proper equipment. So, no difference in appearance.
What is a huge difference though, is the price!
At a much more affordable price, you can easily own the most beautiful diamond to match your dreams and desires.

When choosing a diamond, whether it is a Natural diamond, or a Lab Grown diamond, my recommendation has always been, and will always be: choose. a diamond that is laser inscribed with a Gem Lab Certificate Number from a reliable, trustworthy Gem Laboratory.
With the steady demand for Lab Grown diamonds, being able to verify what you are buying, is becoming essential.
One of the top recommended lab certificates for Lab Grown diamonds is IGI - International Gemological Institute.
For Natural Diamonds there is no better choice than GIA - Gemological Institute of America.
Lab Grown Diamonds are commonly available in sizes from 0.50ct to large sizes from 5.00ct to 10.00ct. Sizes smaller that 0.50ct are available, but not that regularly. All shapes are available too, from round, to emerald, pear, marquise, etc.
The most popular size selection of Lab Grown Diamonds is in the magic size ranges of 1/2 carat, 3/4 carat. 1.0ct, and so on.
Due to the ready availability of Lab Grown Diamonds, it is therefore very easy to match a pair of diamonds for studs, a tennis bracelet, with a matching pendant, side stones for a three-stone ring, and more.
